U.S. Issues Travel Warning for Venezuela
Venezuela has been placed under the Department’s highest travel advisory level — Level 4: Do Not Travel — because of "severe risks including wrongful detention, torture in detention, terrorism, kidnapping, unfair law enforcement practices, violent crime, civil unrest, and inadequate healthcare."
The agency emphasized the critical threats that travelers might encounter in the country.
The statement highlighted that "U.S. citizens in Venezuela face a significant and growing risk of wrongful detention," underlining the intensifying danger to American nationals present in the region.
Additionally, the notice pointed out that there is currently no operational U.S. Embassy or Consulate within Venezuela.
This absence of diplomatic support raises further concerns about the safety and protection of Americans in the country.
The State Department also strongly urged U.S. nationals to evacuate Venezuela.
It advised that "anyone with U.S. citizenship or any other U.S. residency status in Venezuela should leave the country immediately, including those traveling on Venezuelan or other foreign passports."
